Coil Coatings

Gemme Micron is used as a functional extender in coil coatings, not only because extenders make it possible to lower coating formulation costs, also because Gemme Micron has a dispersion promoting action and enhances the efficiency of the pigments used. The solvent based topcoat formulation examined here is used to demonstrate partial replacement of white and coloured pigments (10%wt. in each case). Optical properties such as gloss, haze and colorimetric data are not affected. This change alone achieves raw materials cost savings for white and coloured pigments of around 7%.
