Synthetic Barium Sulphate(Gemme Fixe)
Overview
Gemme Fine is synthetic barium sulfate which is precipitated with a defined particle size from highly purified solutions of barium salts and sodium sulfate. Gemme Fine are bright white, low oil absorption pigment extenders, with excellent, low abrasion grinding and dispersion properties. They are in soluble, chemically inert and provide excellent UV barrier properties. They are a cost effective alternative to the more expensive pure white grades. Thanks to its chemical production process, Serial products of Gemme Fine is free of impurities such as quartz, etc. They are gaining more and more significance as an indispensable additive for superior, specialized coatings. Special milling technologies, inorganic secondary treatments or the design of a special crystal shape result in tailor-made solutions to various problems. Despite an unwritten law about fillers. this high end filler can even be used in any kind of high gloss top coats giving technical and commercial benefits to the final product and its producer.
Gemme Fine is resistant to acids and alkalis, insoluble in water and organic media and being an inert extender, is lightfast and weather-resistant. Gemme Fine has a narrow particle-size range, Ultra fine particle size. immense specific surface area and low binder requirement properties which result in good finished products in the most broad and diverse applications.
With its hardness of 3 (Mohs). Gemme Fine has only a low abrasive action. Serial products of Gemme Fine exhibits an extremely high light reflectance in broad ranges of the spectrum, not only in the visible but also well into the ultraviolet and infrared ranges. Gemme Fine thus offers pure whiteness and preserves the original brilliance and hue of the colored pigments used. The Gemme Fine range are synthetic barium sulfate produced from high purified solutions in a defined growth process. consists of four grades Gemme Fine GM-40, an 3 micron mean grain size product down to Gemme Fine GM-100, a 1 micron top size product with a mean (d50) of 0.7 microns.
Recommended applications include durable high gloss finishes, industrial coatings, electro-deposition and powder coatings, X-ray opaque plastics and radiation barriers products, FDA compliant inks and packaging products, seals and gaskets, textile and composites.
